Annual M5 Fettle - Have you come across this?

Folks - a little help on this would be great - I took my car in for the annual once over and MOT.

It failed the MOT for a minor niggle - a water jet hose not providing sufficient water to the windscreen to wash it....

The big news is I asked the guys at BMW in Stevenage (who I think are very good BTW) to take a look at a slight hesitation under 2000 rpm and the engine sometimes feeling breathless between 3500-4500 rpm. The diagnosis was that there were a couple of air leaks in the hosing to the engine (presumably this means its getting too much air, not too little as previously thought), as a result of the hosing being worn out. The leak must be between the MAFS and the engine itself.

Can you guys (fountains of all knowledge that you are) advise:

1. whether you have come across this before
2. Whether this is something that is covered by BMW warranty (it better be....just extended at a cot of £1500!!)
3. whether there is history on this board of similar items - i.e. what I would have thought of as 'lifetime' parts wearing out?

Thanks folks - really appreciate your thoughts on this.

Cheers
