Post Voice Recognition Module Retrofit

I finally received the Voice Recognition Module retrofit kit.

84 41 6 906 630 Module
84 13 8 384 866 Bracket
07 12 9 946 304 Nuts -must order 4

When ordering the module itself, the man (or woman) in the Parts Dept. will probably say that they are prevented/blocked from ordering that actual part.

Luckily, I have gotten friendly with a high level official at BMW North America (who happens to work in the very department responsible for such things as BMW cellular phone development....).

At first, I was told by him that BMW's aim is to first service 2000 7-Series customers (i.e. make these retrofit pieces firstly available to them). Then, he told me that the module couldn't be shipped straightaway because BMW AG had not finished publishing the owner's manual for this product.

Somehow I prevailed upon him to make an exception (i.e. "pretend" that I am a 7-Series owner who is happy to wait for the owners's manual until such time as it becomes available).

Thus, once my BMW Parts Dept. placed the order, I had to re-contact my "connection" with the Order No. so that he could intercede on my behalf (i.e. have this "held-back" module "released" to my dealer).

I have not yet had time to get it installed. I will report back once that's done. Apparently, this device allows the driver to make phone calls verbally like the Timik-sourced system in MY 2000 Mercedes-Benzs). Unlike the MY 2000 Mercedes-Benzs however, the BMW iteration additonally allows the driver to verbally command the navigation system.

It's my understanding that MY2001 M5s already incorporate these functions.

Good Luck!

Just to clarify.

I no longer own the above-referenced M5. However, I promised the new owner that I would follow through for him with all of this Voice Recognition Module retrofit business.

Once it's installed, I will quiz him for his impression of the system and then report back to the board.

Sorry for spelling "Mercedes-Benzes" as "Mercedes-Benzs." I won't let it happen again!

HadE55.....,
I'll be in San Diego from the 20th-29th of this month. Do you think you could get another unit from your parts guy? ( My parents live off Mt Solidad). The folks in the Bay Area think I'm nuts and don't know what I'm talking about when asking for this new "retrofit" or update for my CPT 7000.

No luck here! My dealer's part department has idea or is reluctant to give information.

Mark, may I ask how much the module cost and would you be able to provide your dealer's phone number?

THanks,

ALX
