Can someone please tell me where to find an air temp sensor. I have looked, but all that comes up is the external air temp for the outside temperature.
Just another suggestion that might help you out...as you've said no codes, did you use the GT1? if not try using one (some codes will not show as it might not be sufficient to for the ses light to be triggered...but the gt1 will give you everything...

I don't know anything about what was used to pull the codes. They were dealers. Fletcher BMW in Asheville, NC, and United BMW in Atlanta, GA. The only code that came up was the one for the thermostat malfunction.
The best way is to find an indie shop that have a gt1 and can read and show the codes "in front" of you (write them down and post them on this forum) reset it and if problem persist pull the codes from the Gt1 again...this will imho will help you...

The air temp sensor is built into the MAF. They all have one the sensor, but only one side has the wiring to use it.
A couple places sell an external temp sensor that bypasses the one in the MAF.
I highly doubt that the temp sensor is your problem though.

I am going to Spartanburg SC today. I am sure there will be someone there that will be able to pull the codes. I will keep you posted on my results. Thanks for all of the replies.

OMG!! Not only is this your third Dealer, This is the Third State.WTF!!!
I took my M5 to Spartanburg SC today. When I was about 1000ft from the dealers exit my car shook, started running like a Subaru, and threw a SES light. Finally I had something to go off of. The dealer pulled the code and found that my passenger side (USA car) MAF was not working and cyl. one misfire. I told them that it was a new MAF and if they were sure it wasn't the wiring harness. The tech said that if it was the wiring harness, they would have stated so. Well, OK, I guess. When I got home I switched the MAFS once again. No change. When I unplug the left side, stumble, I unplug the right side, nothing. It took three dealers at $125 a pop to tell me what I already knew. I really love this car, but thoughts of a dirt cheap sale are creaping into my mind. Any thoughts?
I may have missed it in the thread - did the first MAF change get done by a dealer? ...if so, I'd let them know another dealer says the MAF is bad - either way, get the specific MAF diagnostic they have that says the MAF is bad, and see with your own eyes... chase that trail...
The "Service consultant" brought the sheet out and showed me the results. I then asked if it was possible that the sensor was ok, but somehow the ECU wasn't reading the sensor. He then told me that if that were the problem it would have shown up on the test. I don't know if this is true or not. I replaced the MAFS myself about 3 weeks ago. Last night I switched the sensors around. In theory, if it is a bad sensor, wouldn't the problem follow the sensor? It didn't. It stayed on the passenger side. I am going to call an Indy shop in Atlanta today and get my car scheduled. I am sick of BMW dealers. I have lost all faith in their diagnostic ability.
Dealer said if they replaced the MAF and it didnt fix the problem I would still be charged for the sensor.
