What are these buttons for?

The buttons beside the heated seats. They look like waves. This pic came out of a dinan S2.

I've never seen it on another 5...a few 740s had it, and I believe all 750s had it. I believe the intent was to make it easier on your back for longer trips.

Have it on my comfort seats. Butt massage, eerie feeling when you use it.
All of a sudden one side of your derriere is lifting a little and then slowly sinking and the other side rising a little and it goes on like that.
Your butt can stand sitting (unintentional pun) a little longer...

Yep: Active seats (but on my comfort seats)

My GreenBeast has this option.

Itīs named active seats, and yes, itīs for easier long distance driving.

I would say it is not a real seatmassage.
The active seats have gel-inserts which are pumped up alternate left and right bottom (I donīt know exactly - it takes about 2 minutes for each side).

Itīs only a little gel insert but the feeling is that you sit in a beveled parked car.

broken ?

mmmmm I have those buttons but they dont light up when I push them. Are they supposed to light up? I dont feel any difference with seat either? Would they put the buttons there even though they are not connected to anything? Any advice on how to fix if it is broken?

assuming you're not the original owner, someone probably added the button pannel!. I've seen them on ebay a few times.

I've never seen a US M5 with them, since we received sports seats as standard and the active seats were available with comfort seats.
