Chicago-snowing like there is no tomorrow.
Got to work this morning fine, but later in the afternoon, it started snowing. I wasn't worried; it’s going to stop soon-yeah maybe a week from now!
Anyways, 7:30 I left work and started out for the highway a quarter of a mile away for my nightly 1.5 hour commute. When I got to the on ramp, the car stops moving forward and it slowly creeps to the side. I made it about a quarter of the way and now I'm stuck. If I tried to go forward I risk putting the tail in the ditch. So I sat there thinking how stupid I was for not listening to the weatherman. When I went out to assess the situation, I noticed that my rear tires were BALD and the 6 inches of snow was not plowed! I couldn't believe that I was so careless as to drive on bald tires. As cars passed me by to get on the highway, I felt so ashamed to have put the beast in such a quandary. And what’s worse? My cell phone is almost out of battery. About 15 minutes later, 2 cars pulled over and offered to help. We tried everything to no avail. So finally we gave it 1 last try to back out of the ramp and we made it! Joey and 2 other guys-I owe you!You guys stopped while everyone else passed on by. Now I'm at least off the ramp and back on the side streets, but still not moving. A while later a cop showed up do to my call for help, another nice guy. I asked him to help by blocking the highway as my friend and I tried to push the car across the intersection and onto some asphalt. I finally got out of that intersection and returned to my work.
When I got home(3 hours later), I reflected on the incident and felt bad that I didn't even have a business card to give Joey when he asked. Worse, I didn’t even give him any cash which, I later realized, I had in my wallet. Joey and his buds- THANKS! I will have to find a way to repay this act of kindness.
I could have been in a worse situation tonight, but thanks to some random acts of kindness, I'm safely at home. Hope you guys made it home ok.
What have I learned? Get new tires before its too late. This weekend, new tires, any advise?
I just wanted to share my bad and good night in the windy city.

God I love not having Winters. Don't get me wrong I love the nice brisk cold weather, but when it comes to driving I enjoy 10 months of basically summer lol
I listen to the weather all the time. My ///M has seen snow one time and I had brand new summer tires on her as well. Took me me 2 hrs to go 4 miles to work.... Never again, after all I have other cars to use.
time to move......... to a different continent. Good to know there are still samaritans out there..... best to keep a good eye on the beast and not rely on the good nature of others, forewarned is forearmed.

My tires have anti-snow superpowers. It snowed over 4 inches in the weeks prior to my getting them, but it hasnt snowed ONCE since I put them in the car over a month ago.
This also coincides with my traffic controlling-transmission, which makes traffic slow down whenever I engage the clutch to upshift.
