TireRack says 245's ok on rear OEM wheel T/F?

I ordered Dunlop Winter Sport M2, from TireRack, to go on the stock wheels. The sales person told me, after I reiterated several times I have an M5, that 245/VR40-18's can go on the rear rims. I was told this size can work with the large width of the 9.5" rear oem wheel.

Now BostonRocket ordered the same tires (from somewhere else) and he got 265/vr35-18's for the rears.

What's the board's opinion on the TireRack recommendation? Is it dangerous?

Thanks in advance!

ALX

PS. My discussion with 'Rocket has me convinced that I need to go with the 265's.

245's are definitely a bit small for 9.5 rims.... It would probably fit though, but I think getting the 265's are a bit wiser.... I'm suprised that tire-rack "recommended" 18 inch tires.. the past few times I called they keep on insisting that we should use 17 inch rim and tire combo.....

By the way, how come you're ordering from tire-rack and not from designhaus? I thought they were a bit cheaper than tire-rack

9.5 is the maximum recommended width for 245/40-18, should be fine

T,

I had no clue design house would be cheaper! If that's true, I'll cancel my order and buy through them. I may just order the 265's from them anyway and return one pair to TireRack. Also, I told the sales guy that I needed winter tires for the oem rims...he told me i should go 17, but if I need 18 then the Dunnies are the way to go.
