Check engine light on for only two days

Driving up the autobahn last week from Freiburg to Gronau (a long stretch) I was 'invited' to race by an olivegreen E46 M3. My car now has about 2500 miles on it. The little M pulled away great (lighter load) but once my 400bhp kicked in I could easily pass him.

The trouble was that I'd need to stay in 4th or 5th to accelerate (have you tried it in 6th?!?) and then shift to 6th to prevent redlining.

One time I was behind the M3 in 5th and shifted to 6th gear at 145 mph. Almost immediately the check engine light came on and stayed that was for two days. It went away as suddenly as it came.

The car was rock steady and the two of us reached peak speeds of 165-170 mph.

Question 1: The engine runs fine - should I show my dealer?
(i.e. did I trash my motor?)

Question 2: Does this mean the 155mph limiter doesn't work?

        Ashok,

I would take it in and get them to check the error codes to see what the problem was. People seem to have had various reasons for this light coming on such as petrol cap not fitted correctly and sometimes switching off and on again clears it and it doesn't come back. Better to be safe than sorry though.
