When running the AC, I've always thought that the fan level didn't change "enough" according to the temperature differential between the car's interior, and the temperature that was selected on the dash.
So yesterday I did an experiment:
In 85 degree heat, I drove my beast for about ten minutes with the windows down and the AC off to make sure the temperature of the interior was the same as the exterior. Then I rolled up the windows, turned on the AC and manually adjusted the temperature on both sides down to sixty (the lowest possible setting).
The fans turned up to about half speed for 30 seconds or so, then actually slowed down one or two "blips". At no time did the fan go faster than half speed.
Is this normal? Is this expected?
When I turn on the "Max" button, the fans go to full throttle as expected. But I'm wondering with such a large temperature differential why the fans didn't go over half when I was doing my experiment
