Twisted Drivers Seat - anyone experienced this?

My driver's seat is twisted and there area couple of threads out there that talk about fixing this - turns out its a cable but there is no specific DIY for an e39 M5 sport seat?

Anyone out there fix their seats or experienced a similar problem?

This sounds unusual. I just finished a major refurb of my seats. Can you take a picture and post it?

Yeah, I will this weekend! I will play around with the seat and see If I can fix it!

I don't think this will be a major fix, but something I'm sure shops would charge a pretty penny to do!

This is usual, one of the two flexible cables got disengaged from a motor. Which part is twisted?

I looked at an '02 and '03 this past weekend and both cars had that problem. There is a fix that the BMW mechanics know about. Something to do with the cable and housing. I'll ask my bud an try to post.I do remember him saying to remove the 2 rear bolts that hold it to the floor and tilt the seat forward so you can look under it and also to leave it plugged in to check operation.

Unhook the battery, I think there might be a connection to the airbag hooked under there

haven't needed this on E39, but search for E34 or E38, this is very common problem, where cable "stretched", and the ends got disengaged from the motor (assuming your motor still cranks, hence only one side is moving).

Two fixes I have seen:
short route, stick a wire to the end of the cable, towards the motor.

Long route (this is what I did), cut a section (1cm) of the sleeve off, and buy some fuel hoses to wrap around the joint (you've shortened the sleeve), and the problem will be fixed for good.

easiest if you remove seat, and while you are at it, might as well do all the cables, quite a few there.

search in E34 forum, headrest or seat twist

The e34 threat does show that! yes, the seats on the e34 M5 chassis are different, but you are right, its that damn cable! With a car like that, you'd think that the 'seat design' would be state-of-the-art and would not use cables rather than perhaps rigid rods or something to that effect!

I will be probably playing around with the seat this weekend so if I do fix it, I will post the fix unless someone already has done so with pics and done this in the past!

Any takers?

This sound like the fix my mechanic buddy was talking about.
