Question re Shark Injector/Conforti Software . . .
For those of you who get it, on page 35 of the December 2007 issue of Roundel there is a Turner Motorsport ad featuring the "Shark Injector" which looks to be a ECU-only upgrade that promises +23 hp and +18 lb-fit for the E39 M5. Does anyone have experience with this product on the M5 or other BMWs? If so, is there any downside to this product? Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.
/Rich

See this thread for more info:
TMS Shark Injector
I installed the software a couple weeks ago and am fully satisfied. I think the improvement in driveability stemming from the quicker and smoother throttle response is worth the $370 alone. The gains in power are simply icing on the cake. I don't know whether BMW implemented some system like GM's Torque Managment in order to ease strain on the drivetrain in the first few gears, but what the ad says about changes in gears 1-3 versus 4-6 seems to be true from what I can tell.
People are understandably sceptical about purported gains from software reprogramming alone on ODB2 BMWs, and that's fine. I'm going to try my best to re-dyno the car within the next few weeks, but regardless of any gains or losses, I think it's great mod. What I'm curious about is how similar the Conforti software is to the Discovery and PC versions?

Thanks for the information. It looks like a worthwhile upgrade. My car now has over 100,000 miles. Is there an issue with increased drivetrain wear or is this negligible?

conforti chip tms
I installed the race version of the shark injector on my beast at 165,000 miles on the clock. I now have 171,000 and it feels even better. Gears 1-3 are stronger and longer and you are able to achieve faster speeds in these gears. Gears 4-6 feel a bit stronger and is most noticeable when you hit 155 and you still able to go way past that. No more 155 limiter Thottle response is amazing in ever gear just don't try driving in leather dress shoes. Add some cold air intakes and maybe some possible engine mods and this will blow by the italian cars and keep up with the porsche turbos all while carrying 4 passengers. The chip keep this car a true wolf in sheeps skin.

Dyno?
Can't remember guys...I followed the original thread a while ago...Did anybody ever "confirm" horsepower gains with the Shark software alone?
Other than the butt dyno, any true improvements other than the usual gains in "driveability" with aftermarket software?
I thought about this, but since my car already has the Dinan flash...it seemed pointless to "reflash" back to stock prior to the Shark deal.

I have not dyno'd my car BUT ran against my buddies high bolt on 350z before and after.
Before, from a 20 roll i would barely inch away but would actually start pulling at near 100 mph.
After, immediately put a few car lengths inbetween us and kept pulling.
we were both pretty impressed

I'm going to dyno my car soon, like I said, but in the meantime I've done some G-Tech Pro runs...
...uh oh, that's right I said G-Tech better get the pitchforks out now
...and it showed undeniable gains in all gears(though roughly twice as much in gears 1-3, as mentioned). I've done roughly 350 runs with this little gadget and have it down to a science, so I'm very confident when I notice any changes in power output. That's my experience, fwiw.

Thanks for the info. Be great if you could post some dynos...not that I don't trust you, but for ME, if the gains are real, I would consider ditching the Dinan stuff, going back to OEM, and doing the Shark. Still would be a pretty cost-effective horsepower mod.
Do they sell it to residents of California?
