Help needed with sat nav - key cd
Hi group,
yesterday I did a software upgrade on my sat nav - mk3
everything went good and I pressed OK at the end, then it did a reboot and now is asking for the key cd.
I have been searching and while I can find references to it I cannot find where I can get one.
Any pointers would be very much appreciated.
thanks,
Richie.

Thanks again Douglas.
What I can find out is that there is supposed to be a key cd to go along with the software upgrade cd - as luck would have it there was none with the software cd I had.
Also, the key cd is unique to the software cd so even if I could find a key cd it would not work.
Do any of you have a both discs?
Do any of you know where I could get them?
I am pretty much at a dead end with this now.....

Richie, did you check out X5world yet? Don't know if the US discs are different.

I've never had to use a KeyCD, so I can't give you one, but I do know a couple things:
1. It applies only to the MK3
2. It applies only to a handful of the early software releases of MK3
3. While it may be firmware release specific, it is not specific to the physical CD in your hand. It was my understanding there was just a generic key CD, but it may be that there is one Key CD for v17 and another for v18.
I don't know how much time you have spent on www.x5world.com in the Nav section, but I know I have seen requests for KeyCD's filled...

Thanks guys,
I have spent a bit of time and all links point to the Yahoo groups - which I joined, I eventually found a link and downloaded - but the files are in formats my computer doesn't recognise; *.ccd *.sub and *.img
I have also searched on ebay but cannot find anything for sale - surprisingly.
I guess my next step is to find out how to open those file types and try to burn a disc.
I think you are right Douglas, the Mk III is the only version that will ask for the key cd and also it is not specific to the cd I have.
If you know what the file extensions above are would you let me know please?
Cheers and thanks to you and Richard for the help - it is very annoying looking at a black screen with the words 'please insert key cd or version 17' written across it - you cannot turn the monitor off now and also you cannot access the menu.
Radio still works - Thanks God!!
Richie.

ImgBurn or UltraISO!

Hi Richie,
2 things - first, you may find it easier to find a copy of V17 instead of a KeyCD as many of the links to the old software seem to now be dead (as I'm sure you know). Nevertheless, I found functioning links to the KeyCD here and here. I'd use the first one if I were you
Of course, once you get that, it won't help you any more than what you already have if you don't know how to burn and .img or .iso file
This, incidentally is a much easier problem to resolve than finding the KeyCD.
Personally, I like ImgBurn but also sometimes use UltraIso. There are about 10 other softwares out there you can use as well, but most of them are shareware, not freeware.
Install the software, start it, then open the *.img file and burn it to a CD.
Then stick the CD into the gaping jaws of your Nav unit for the first (and last) time since only the early versions require a KeyCD...
Good Luck!

I went thru this a while back and still have the key CD and a folder with all the files in it. Let me know if you need some help, and I can start refreshing my brain.
