EXTREMELY loud UUC short shift kit

Yesterday I went and bought a UUC short shift kit, which I installed. I ran in to numerous problems (due to UUC's shitty quality), but finally was able to get the kit installed. Now, I have a HORRIBLE whining whenver I have my hadn on the shifter...not just the 1st-2nd shift, but anytime in 1st/2nd when I have my hand on the shifter I get a LOUD noise. Any pressure on the shifter results in this god-awful noise.
The only thing I am not sure about in my install is whether or not I got the plastic boot on 100% correctly. I am not sure whether I got the little lip back on or not (once again, pretty vague instructions). I'm going to go and mess with the plastic boot to be sure that its all the way on-would not having the boot on all the way result in this horrible noise?

I'd really have your installation checked out. My shortshifter works great, with an almost inaudible whine in 2nd- but that's it. I think you may have installed it incorrectly.

Good luck

No whine with the UUC in my beast. I agree that the quality is marginal and the installation instructions leave a bit to be desired.

Given the problem description, I would have the installation checked.....

No problems with mine, no whining, no vibrations, just solid as a rock shifts!

The UUC SS kit is made to extremely close tolerances, I suspect that just not only having mechanical ability to install, you need to be very meticulous, many of the installs are not done correctly. I have seen where even a technician has not done the install correctly. I am willing to bet that you did not install it correctly.

I'll have my install checked out. Do you guys have the 'upgrade' metal cartridge bearings, or the stock delrin ones? I wonder if the metal ones make more noise...

I know exactly what you're talking about. I had it as well with the metal bearing upgrade... changed it back to the plastic ones, and it was a little better, but still had a bit of noise... the older UUC ones were much better.. it seems that everytime I change something in the shifter to something new from UUC, it just gets worse and worse...

I have the precision bearings and have no issues, or any problems what so ever.

I had the same problem as TFung. It got better when I replaced the cartridge bearing back to the delrin bushing. But I still have some play in the shifting, and some noise.
