OT: I drove a 996TT!!!

Hey all,

This Turkey Day was very interesting. My cousin was holding out on me and bought a 996TT behind my back! Little punk shocked me! I heard it pull into the driveway and I ran outside to see what it was. The look on this his face was like no other. We got into our cars and we got onto the highway to play. I told him I wanted to see him pull away from me while we where doing about 80. He did and that thing just dissapeared. AMAZING!!

At around 120, he pulled away again but this time he didn't dissapear as fast. Yes, he got in front of me but the power the Beast had at that time was more than enough to tag along. A few moments later he just vanished and we met back at my place, he said he hit 160 at one point on his way back (just for a second).

When we got back he said that he was impressed as to how the Beast stayed so close when we hit 80+. He tossed me the keys and let me take her for a little spin. My thoughts?? I gotta have one! His car has about 420 hp and it feels like a lot more. I can't imagine what the new 460 hp version is like! I am still (most) amazed with how well the car stoped. Every time I hit the brakes I hit them a bit to hard. Sorry for rambling on about this car guys, but I liked it so much that I had to call my local Porshe dealer to see how long it would take to get me one! That's how much I liked it!!

Oh, what did my cousin have to say about my car? "I like the DVD" SOB!! lol (and the lights) Thing is just so SICK!! AH! Once again, sorry for the O.T. but I just had to share this with you guys.

I too had the opportunity to drive the 996TT a few weeks ago. What an awesome piece of machinery. The car surprisingly has great torque at low RPM, but the car is just an animal when the RPMs get to around 4000, it was like a swift kick in the pants!!

I think the car is marginally quicker than my M5, but oh the sensation from the turbo engine just made it feel sooo much faster!! I envy all who have this car!

Next stop, MODENA!

Dealer told me that it would take 7 months to get one (at sticker). I am very happy with my Beast but this car just showed me a different light.

I have been having some crazy thoughts! I wonder if I will grow tired of my M5 in 7 months?? Maybe I will put down a deposit just incase. Car is out of this world!!

Angel, the novelty of the 996tt is quite impressive, although I would not sell the M5 if you need the extra room and practical aspects of the M5. I am fortunate to own both, and I can say that the M5 is much more useful and practical for daily purpose. If you sell your M5 you may just grow tired of the 996tt even faster than the M5. The M5 has much more torque at the low end and you can zip through the gears much quicker although I have modified to the 3:45 gear set along with other mods. The 996tt doesn't have the instant torque like the M5, on a roll and with the turbo boosting is where the 996tt shines. There is a noticeable lag compared to the M5. The 996tt can use a little more improvements such as the EVO stage 3 for more low end torque and more boost good for around 530HP, although it increases lag slightly, also needs short shorter badly, and the clutch is a little soft. The EVO stage 3 will have a remote controlled ECU with a 3 program ECU with a stock with a 1.1bar/ 100 octane racing/ and a valet mode (you can not rev it past 3k) all in one ECU. Much more interior ratttles and noises.

If you can afford it, you may want to consider owning both, as both of these great machines compliments each other.

If I could own both I would. Unfortunatly, I don't have that luxury.. I think that the M5 has a lot of room. I really don't have a need for 4 doors, if the 850 was still around I would have gone that way. The only reason that I would consider changing to the 996 is because I don't need all the room that the M5 provides (no wife or kids yet).

The fun factor is an issue. The Beast has power, all over the place. It's there whenever you hit the gas. The 996 really kinda scared me to tell you the truth. I'm not saying that that I am going to swap for a 996, but it is something that I am going to think long and hard about. 420 hp was just nuts, I wonder what the 460 hp version is like? Dear God!!

When I got out of that car I have to admit I was jealous as hell (I know my cuz is reaing this), my last crazy car I drove was a 550 M. The 996 blows that out of the water IMHO. Funwise, the 996TT is the bomb. M5 is more practical but I would much rather have the 996TT on the track. Also, the issue of not really being able to get any more power out of the M5 (in US), bothers me. Stock 996TT will do just fine for me.

Do you guys know what the differences in performance are between the 996TT with and without the turbo enhancement (exhaust, etc??). I know you get more power (that of the GT2) but what about 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?? Is this feature worth the $$? I could care less about top speed. Any thoughts?? I really can't find that much info about the new feature.

Angel, The 996tt is the bomb if you don't need all the room, then by all means go for it! You will not be dissapointed, the performance is awesome. But it doesn't take any thing away from the M5 IMHO. Different cars for sure, both cars are fun to drive. With the uprades you can knock off a few .100 off 0-60. Check out funcarsonline a good place for info, and up to date mods.
