400hpAddict: It depends on when your M5 was built. If you'll look at the screenshots..you'll see that the nav system was installed on the one with the smaller Nav screen which is what your car has. Does your car have a female voice or a male voice when it guides you via the navigation option? It's possible that this upgrade would work for you after all.
Would it be possible to borrow your CD? I live in SF and don't have the right CD burning equipment. I'll private message you with my email and address.
Is the CD-ROM drive actually different between the 2000 and 2001/2002 model years? In what ways are they different? I thought CD-ROMs were CD-ROMs... and I know they aren't using DVD-ROM yet, unlike the japanese.
I thought only the screen was changed from the 4:3 to 16:9 versions? Can anyone comment on this?
I would love to upgrade to the new interface for both my cars, but they are both early build MY2000's. I thought about retrofitting the 16:9 screen at some point in the M5, but now I have to get a new CD-ROM too?

PhilSeastrand: that's exactly what I was talking about..the car pointer stays stationary in the center and the map moves. It's hard to post pictures of that since we'd need videos rather than stillshots to demonstrate that. I could try to make an animated GIF if you'd like. I'm not even sure if the map did this with the older OS. I never tried using the "pointing north" option..always the "direction of travel."
I am not sure I understand. When using the pointing north option the map doesn't change direction, it point north all the time (hence the name). When using "direction of travel", in my car (older 2001), the map tries to follow the car direction, but it is not constant, it kinda repaints the map every so often (30 sec?). to match the direction of the car.
Are you saying that you can actually have the pointer in the middle of the screen and the map moves? Please say yes, please.... Just for this I would upgrade...
