Paint Problem on Wheels- need help.

Need some help. I have a 7/00 build date Royal Red. I took delivery in August 2000.

The silver paint on my wheels is coming off, or getting thin, in some spots. I only wash the wheels with the same soapy water with which I wash the car and the finish on the car looks great. The silver top coat paint on the stock wheels is getting thin with the black undercoat showing through. This is mostly on the sides of the spokes. The finish on the rim part still looks fine. The sides of the spokes are getting dark, splotchy and look kind of pitted. The problem is worse on the front wheels, but the rear wheels also have some of these spots. My wheels have no other scratches, curb rub or wear marks.

Basil mentioned the same thing in a reply to a post by Bimmeup on 10/24/01. He said it looked like the paint was being rubbed off.

I have talked with the dealer about this problem. He agrees that the wheels should not be doing this but he wants to check with BMW to see if others have had this problem I don't know the outcome of this yet, but I want new wheels all the way around since I understand that the 2001 wheel color is not the same as the 2000.

It will be very helpful if anyone else having this same problem with their wheels could reply to this post. If BMW comes back and says that it is not a common problem I am sure it is going to have a more difficult getting them to step up and replace my wheels. Thanks in advance for any help. Maybe these responses will help others get their wheels replaced if they have the same problem.
