Well, after weeks of searching for the perfect material to wrap my trim in, I FOUND IT! It is a vinal leather look-alike, and the color is EXACTLY the same and the pattern is almost identical. The pictures do not do it justice, and the reflection in the pic makes it look slightly off but in person it is PERFECT! I have a lot of extra material if anyone is interested. The project took a little over 6 hours with two people. I know the e-brake handle looks horrible, that is my next purchase. The shift know is Leaterhz.com illuminated. Enjoy!
Oh and a full detail is coming next on sunday. Sorry for the dirty car, I am ashamed!
Hmmm, I'm undecided. It's almost too much red. I have the same interior, except aluminum instead of wood. I will say it looks much better than the wood, that went poorly with the red IMO.

agreed, the work is done well... however i think its over kill. had it been in black to match the dash or the other leather would be a bit less obtrusive imo... or i was thinking to do alcantara to match the headliner.
You are probably right on that. When I found my car on the net, I knew I wasn't going to buy it because of the red interior. When I went to test drive it (just to get another M experience under the belt) I fell in love with the red interior, it looked 100X better in person.
Well done sir!!! As you may or may not know, I did a similar thing for my wife's 540iT, but in a Chinese silk. The problem I ran into was in the center console cover. I couldn't figure out how to wrap around the switches and the ashtray cover without trimming the console cover openings for clearance. How did you do it?
I cut even with the buttons (like a hole around them, then I trimmed the backing of the material so it would sit right up to the button surrounding. Then I colored the edges of the material with a felt pen that was the same exact color. This wa it looks like the material waterfalls into the space between the buttons and the console even though it would never fit. I have seen pictures of your work on your wifes car. Fantastic job. It definalty gave me inspiration to take on the project.
-Interesting. I hadn't considered that because with fabric I couldn't just leave a cut edge. Props to vinyl! It'll hold up better over time than fabric too. Did you use the heat gun to help form the vinyl over the compound curves on the trim? We had some issue with the PS dash trim cover pulling up from the center over time due to the concave surface.
We used some heat to help form the vinal. The glue that was used is SUPER strong, so I dont see it coming off in the near future. The vinal was very flexable and stretchy so it really formed to the curve beautfully. Your wifes car is so unique...awesome!
Well, palantirion, gotta give you credit where it's due, as well as Stevo. You took a dive and modified your car in a very particular way that suits your unique taste.
I'm not a fan of red like that and I'll refrain from smartass comments, but that doesnt take away from the fact that you customized your car very well. I hope it makes you grin whenever you get in the car!
there may be a bit of an opportunity to make some money here... customizing trim... if you have the time, maybe buy a spare set of trim, wrap it and see how much it goes for on ebay... just a thought.
I'm not really sure what to say. Looks like nice work, but I always was turned off by the red inserts.
Looks very Michael Jackson jacket 80's.
To each his own, though for sure. cherrsagai
