Have any of you had the code "B8" on the peake scanner?

I got it.
On its own, all by itself.

If you had it and beat it, what have you done to fix it?

Well I've not had it, but the Peake reader book says "Intake camshaft VANOS position control, cyl 1-4". This sounds like a defective CPS to me. From my readings on the board, it seems that CPS failures are common.

Good luck.

"B" and "8" can look alike from what I remember. Make sure it's an alpha character and not a numeric character (or vice-versa) - could send you on a goose chase.

This is the thing that really sucks about the Peake - the display is hard to read, and the lookup book is poorly organized. It must be made by Microsoft...

Maybe its just me, but I dont think its poorly organized. First, you get a table, and then a code. And even if there is b8, there is no 68, so confusion is nearly impossible. At least thats how it was when I got codes. Whipped out the book and found them right away. while the tool was still plugged in.

it definately says b8.
i am positive it is neither cam sensors(both) or the vanos itself because they were all recently replaced.

Just because one replaces their tires with new ones, doesn't mean you are guaranteed they can't/won't go flat.

Similarly, if it definitely says B8- then it's CPS regardless if you changed them "recently" or not.

My question would be- did you replace them yourself or had a Indy or $tealer replace them?

With that said, if it was replaced by one of the latter, perhaps then you are still in the warranty timeframe?

You could also have an Indy or $tealer run a diagnostic test with the BMW computer/software to double check the code.

Good luck..

Hi LMX,

I changed all CPS's myself. I still have the b8 come up on my peake reader. I have a hammering noise coming from the area, which is very scary.
I have ordered a vanos solenoid and I hope that should do the trick. I am getting the parts from pelican, but am expecting a minor delay due to xmas.

Good luck with your car, and pleaase post when you get the problem solved, I will definately keep you posted when my fix is completed.
Norm.
