Castrol 5W-30 at Walmart??

Am I a bad monkey for using Castrol Synthetic 5W-30 at Walmart? It's a fraction of the price of the price at the dealer? Will I burn more oil or something? I burn a bit now, but nothing significant. Will I go to purgatory?

The labels in my engine bay and manual say only use Castrol Synthetic....so, I'm using Castrol Synthetic. Thanks for the help!

btw, the only reason I dont use castrol is because they are BP, and I dont mix well with BP due to the fact that they were a-holes and dumped all kinds of kaka into lake michigan. my shop is ~8 miles away from lake michigan and BP's refinery.

When I went to Assael BMW in Monrovia, CA, I had a chance to talk to the shop foreman there and he actually says that BMW 5W30 oil is exactly the same as Castrol Syntec 5W30. They just have it repackaged and put BMW logo on it.

Okay, just so we are all clear on this....I'm getting the vibe there is no real difference....other than the fact that the dealer charges $20 per container and Walmart is charging $3. Thanks.

it's disappointing to see how little bmw dealer shop foremans know. Oil analysis suggests there is a difference between castrol syntec and bmw 5w30, the "german castrol" "european formula" 0w30 is the closest thing to bmw 5w30 on the market. I think VOA's have been posted here before on these oils. bmwna does say castrol syntec is an 'approved oil' for a post 3/00 M5, but it certainly is not the same as the bmw stuff. (though for the typical m5, it probably doesn't matter)

I had a bmw shop foreman also told me i couldn't have bluetooth, (or sirius, for that matter) in my 00 m5 when i went in to have my BT unit and new radio coded to make it all functional, i made my first call then and there with him eating his words.

you really need to find a new dealer, bmw long life synthetic is in the $4 a quart range at my dealer. Castrol TWS is under $9 a liter, though i've seen it at list of closer to 12-16 at many dealerships. If you're dealer is charging $20 a quart for bmw long life synthetic 5w30 (not their new LL04 stuff), they are really ripping people off.

TWS and 5w30 are two different oils. $5.50 for TWS is probably not going to happen.
