Slow nav screen startup

I have the Mk2 nav. Quite often when I start the car, the screen takes an age (over 10 minutes) to display anything, let alone respond. Radio controls do work during this time.

I think this only happens with a CD inside. Has my nav unit had it, or could it be my CD? I just tried ejecting it and it didn't want to know.

I don't really want to upgrade the nav for the sake of it, I rarely use the nav and couldn't care less about the extra features of the Mk4, especially at the price! But if it is affecting the OBC and screen, I might have to put it in my list of planned upgrades...

I'd try updating the firmware first - it may have corrupted. There is really no good reason I can think of other than the graphics board (in the MK2) may be going bad and needs to warm up before functioning fully...

Thanks Doug. I'm downloading 22.1 as I write. Will it automatically reinstall when I insert the disk or do I need to tell the nav to reinstall, as it's already running that version?

The nav system is setup to only update if it detects new software.

I'd try it with 22.1, but you should be prepared that it may tell you it already has the latest version. In this case you will need to get a copy of 21 (or anything else earlier than 22) to downgrade your system and then upgrade it back to 22.

How about a MK III unit?

I have one sitting in my closet. It was working perfectly when I swapped it out for a MK IV. I'd be willing to part with it for a song. Well, maybe cash would be better. You can PM me if you are interested.

I won't repeat the link that ECB listed, but it is a good one

If your Nav says DVD on it, it is a MK4. If it says CD on the front and has 1 power light it is a MK3. If it says CD and has 2 lights on the front it is a MK2. If it is anything else you need a new one anyway

Look over in the Nav section of X5World.Com - they have all the firmwares listed...

Correct. The display in the car (4x3 or 16x9) is just that - a display. All the guts are in the boot.
