Peake Codes...Help!

I am the new owner of a 2000. I bought it with 57,500 and put about 1,000 on it in the last few months. Today I had the SES light turn on; I used the Peake Reader and was given the following codes:
Chart 18:
Code AE
Code b2
From what I've read, AE means Air-Fuel Adaptation, Cyl #1-4, and b2 means Catalyst system efficiency, cyl # 1-4

Can anyone help me with what the problem may be?...anyone have experience with these codes? And, if so, how much did it cost to fix?

Thanks for your help!

B2 sounds like an O2 sensor.

AE I just don't know...

b2 can also be thrown by exhaust leak (at least it was for me) - which may be the culprit if you have an aftermarket exhaust...or a bad cat - though I doubt it at less than 60K miles

Thanks for the replies. As a new owner there are a couple of things that I have noticed, that I just assumed were unique to the M5. For example, I have noticed that the smell of exhaust is very strong when starting cold. In addition, when starting cold I have noticed that for about a minute, while warming up, the engine mildly idles up and down. Are these cause for concern?...possibly connected to the codes?

Thanks again!

The idle hunt is normal...

I don't specifically recall noticing that my M5's exhaust is any stinkier than any other vehicle I've ever owned...

Interesting. Mine is rock steady, just elevated when (what passes for) cold here in south Florida. About 1100, then settles down to 600. Checked MAF's?
Regards,
Jerry

you may want to reset the codes and see what comes back first....as said earlier O2 seems to ring a bell as b2. I do recall teh first time I used my Peake I had a hard time figuring out the tables. If it turns out to be an O2 just replace both precats..thats what I did around 40K
