It's been one of those bad days... PLEASE help

Sigh, I have OCD and this as not made things better. If you could please read through what's happened and give me some comfort, it'll make things a lot better.

My clutch was bad, for various reasons I took it to the stealer and paid $3600 after a 20% discount for a clutch, flywheel, oilchange, and they cleaned the engine bay because the oil cap was leaking and had been spraying oil everywhere. They also changed some oil cap gasket thing they saw was leaking when the tranny was out. They did a 20 pt inspection and said everything was perfect except the rear rotors and tires... but I figured they have a few more miles on them so no biggie.

Fine, I thought, they gave me a 2008 535i loaner for the 1 1/2 weeks it was in the shop, no big deal, it was a nice change for a while. I got my car back Friday, and excited as anything I took a road trip to San Diego and did some city driving and put 350 miles on the car... following correct break-in procedures and babying that thing like no other.

Park in garage, sleep, dreaming of driving another 200 miles or so next day so everything will be broken in and the beast is ready to do what it is meant to do

Well, I started her up and... after 10 miles.... everything shakes violently and the engine is sputtering. SES light on, 2 mins later engine failsafe mode on, I pull over and check things out. Go to Autozone to check codes, 7 codes- 2, 4, 8 cylinder misfiring and multiple misfire and some cam bank 1 & 2 problem... and a TPS sensor problem. Great. Take the pos home, call the dealer (since this happened right after I got it back I think it might be their fault?) and they say they can't look at it until Monday. Fine.

Couple of hours later, I hop in just to buy some cigarettes around the corner... mind you this is after worrying about what happened for 6 hours straight so I'm tired (plus I took a couple of Vicodins to chill me out... like I said I'm very OCD). Luck has it I fall asleep on the way back and I'm awaken by a BAM. Pull over, turns out I slammed into the curb I don't remember how fast I was going (mind was blank) but maybe 30 or 40. Assess the damage, and FORTUNATELY the only thing I saw was severe curb rash. I could have hit another car, a lightpost, whatever. But still, the two right rims are BADLY scratched but I think repairable. Look at some DIYs to fix, go back to Autozone, but they recommend a specialist to do it seeing as it's an M5. I got a number so I will call Monday and try to get those fixed.

The fix won't obviously be like perfect new, but he says the guy's good and will make the rims almost new. Fine. But then my OCD mind comes into play and I wonder... what if something got bent... what if there are scratches or damage I can't see... the car drives EXACTLY like it did before and I see no visual damage except th rash (and a big scrape underneath the bumper... not visible though). I'll get those fixed and then take it in for an alignment just to make sure. But I STILL wonder if there are underlying issues I don't know about.

As icing on the cake (car now has 415 miles on it since new clutch, pretty much broken in I think?) I pull into my driveway (which is slanted like a little hill like most are) and stall... because the engine is goofing off because of that misfire garbage. So then I wonder if I messed my new clutch up or if it wasn't broken in enough to handle a stall.

Pull into my garage and run over the car jack I left there and didn't see... no visible damage but... eh... you get the point.

Sorry for the long post. I am going to try to get this taken care of. But for me, I worry non stop and now my mind is racing. The car is in great condition, drives great, and now these things are happening and now it just feels like it's broken everywhere, scratched rims, and that it's not pretty or good for anything any more.

All I need is some reassurance.

You won't damage the clutch by stalling the engine. The suspension might be damaged, best way is to get it inspected and an alignment.

I think we all can relate to something like what you've just experienced. Just get all the work done right and you'll soon forget about it. Good luck...

30 or 40 and hit the curb?

I'd bet money the rims are bent. No doubt in my mind. Have the alignment checked, and have them run the rims on a Hunter 9700 balancer. DO NOT use a dealer.

And maybe don't take "a couple of Vicodin" and drive- who knows if my daughter was walking near where you were.

As I think about this more, I actually don't really care what happened to you car.

Don't know if you want to be admitting on a public forum that you took Vicadin before you drove. Someone might turn you in to the police for a DUI charge.

OT, but it's good to know there's another m5board M5 in Orange

Sorry about your troubles, that was one hell of a day! If you want to avoid the $tealership route or just want advice, call Chris at BMS (714-429-0257). I certainly recommend going to him at least for diagnosis after the curb incident.

Well, we won't do that, but you're not going to get much sympathy from me if you (or anyone else) is driving impaired. You should be ashamed of yourself. Screw the car, I could care less - how about that poor innocent person that you could have killed while driving stoned?

        Shame on you.

        Thanks for the replies guys.

As per the driving under the influence or whatever, I have chronic back pain and I have a prescription for Vicodin. I realize it was a misjudgment to drive right after I took my (prescribed dose), but nonetheless I am not doing it just to get "stoned."

Taking the car into BMS today, I'll update on what's up.
