the add looks like a fake to me...wouldn't alex have put up his @gumball144 or @teampolizei email instead of that gregslist multi # one?...also why is there just that one pick from 04' i've seen adds for honda civics with more detail...
Not to mention that the time is off by an hour. That's the "record" from the ferrari guys this year.

Well, this partially answers a question I asked on another thread but it still makes no sense to me, also, if he was going to sell it, knowing he has an international fan club his best bet to make a decent profit on it is to use forum boards and craigslists etc. to announce the sale, let hardcore fans know it's coming soon and then put on eBay in an auction only format.

Here is the question that I never figured out an answer to...

"So is the original M5 going to have all of it's gadgets transferred to the replacement car or is the replacement going to be outfitted with the same exact gear? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just fix what was wrong on the original, especially with all the electronics, brakes, exhaust already invested, then buy another M5 and start over or does Alex want to have 2 identical cars to have for backup for unexpected events?

Maybe the gadgets he got on the first one didn't cost him a whole lot to invest given his standing, so buying a new one and having someone invest in those gadgets for him makes a lot of sense? Who knows though ;)

...

the cars are infact decked out to be identical in almost everyway...to fit the new car with the same equipment it's anywhere between 5-10k {alex said this when asked what it would cost to have the same/similar equipment if someone wanted to go out and buy all of it}...

The part that makes the least sense to me is buying a replacement car of the same exact year... I understand fixing whatever was wrong on the original OR I understand buying a 2008 M5 6MT and putting all the tech stuff in it but I don't understand getting the same exact year! If the original is messed up that bad then it's probably not a car I would want to buy and the only place that should think about buying it is a museum. I understand that buying a different car vehicle to outfit will allow him to get the most recent versions of the gadgets...Garmin GPS, radar jammers, cb radios, etc... but I can't imagine that being worth the trouble. I don't think we'll understand this move until Alex explains it, and even then...?

To explain as it was explained to me:
Why not a NEW M5 or at least an 03E39??:...He was afraid w/all the tech. already in the new E60..that putting all of his "stuff" in an E60 might screw it up....moreover he is already used to the E39 and its characteristics.
Outside of mileage there is NO tech. reason to buy an 01/02/03 M5...they are not any faster nor do they handle any better...
As far as selling it:confused2...I'm not so sure that is the case...but I will find out tomorrow.

S
BTW: In answer to a ??? posed earlier...YES the car has NOT been washed since he did his last rally...LOL

Actually, the Polizei M5 is...

...NOT for sale. The sticker sheet I created was meant purely as an entertaining giveaway for show visitors who didn't want to buy a book, but wanted something to put on their fridge doors. Alas, the powers that be insisted I put my picture on the back (standing against the M5) so there was something to sign. I felt a little funny about THAT, since I still feel like a fanboy, and totally ridiculous signing pictures for folks with whom I have more in common than with most of the people I've met on rallies!

In any case, SOMEONE I gave the sticker sheet to obviously didn't get the joke, because the "M5 for sale" rumors began soon after "The Driver" tour started.

I'LL NEVER SELL IT!

Best, Alex
