M-Audio Subs

I have the DSP system but not the M-Audio. Somone locally is selling there M-Audion Subs. Could these be installed as plug-n-play on my car?

They will physically fit with no issue, and you have 4 channels of sub already provided in your DSP amp. The stock DSP amp, however, will not provide nearly enough power to drive them adequately (imo), so you may also end up investing in a small mono or 2 channel amp to make yourself happy.

M SUB WARNING

I bought a set of M-subs, and they actually sound great. However they arent built very well. Two months after I installed them the left one stopped working. I replaced it and the replacement stopped working and the right is starting to fail also. At 500 a piece thats was about 1500$ for woofers that didnt last six months!! Sooo I replaced both of them with 2 JBL woofers and a n amp. for about $1000. They also came with a warranty! My opionion buy any system but the BMW M subs. Youll save lots of money! Just my experience! Good luck!

Board sponsor BSW has a 10" sub with amp for $700+ which sounds very good imo.

Free-air JBL's mounted in stock location, or JBL's in a box?

JBL

My JBLs are in a narrow box next to each other right behind the rear seats. Luckly the M5 has a big trunk so I still have lots of room in it. I think im gonna mount one under the rear deck where I had the free air woofers located. Curious as to how much of a difference it makes not being in a box. They are waaaay stronger than the M subs. I had to turn the amp to the lowest setting. I like bass but I dont want my trunk vibrating like crazy.
I could have saved more money with an amp with less power. Im happy for now
Now I have an awsome sound system to match my awsome car!

I have the stock M-Audio.

I drive my subs very hard and very loud everytime I play my stereo and I have zero issues.

The stock amp appears to be powerful enough as I hear no distortion on the subs even on loud volume. But like Doug, I also think I am putting too much stress on the stock amp driving the big subs and all the speakers so I plan on installing a separate amp to drive the subs soon. 'Will post updates once I am done.
