Oil problem

Sorry to bring this back up but you guys remember my last post about my car smoking when I use the engine to slow the car down (engine braking) and then accelorate hard afterwards, well today I noticed that one of the bolts that you remove to get to the spark plugs has a little oil on it, the rest dont. Sorry to ask again but could you guys chime in with your thoughts on this.
Thanks

Sounds like you need valve cover gaskets.

Which bolt? Is it one of the bolts that holds the Bremi in place on the spark plug? Or is it one of the bolts that holds the cover on? Or a different bolt?

It is one for the spark plug I assume because there are four in a row on each side. It is the one nearest the front of the car on the right hand side. Also as you guys may remember this only happens when I use the engine for braking and only between 2000rpm and 3000rpm, however today I tried letting the clutch up quickly instead of slowly which I normally do and hardly any smoke. Could it be my driving style?

Do you also have oil all over the inside of that same area, or is it just on the bolt holding the Bremi?

No oil anywhere else just on the bolt, but I think I have finally cracked it, my car is smoking because of my driving style. I am taking to long to disengage the clutch when using the engine to brake. Just drove home from work and let the clutch up quickly several times and NO SMOKE! Now I am going to monitor the black spots of carbon on the rear bumper for the next few weeks. This problem has never been consistent and now I might have found out why. If I am correct, I know there are a few guys on this board having the same problem so I will let you all know soon. FINALLY!!!!!!!

No, this is not it. You may find that driving this way prevents this symptom, but you have an underlying problem.

Andy, I have a solution. You have run all the diagnostics and there is no problem. It appears you may have a slight valve cover gasket leak which is annoying, but thats all. Your oil consumption is reasonable, and the car runs fine..Perhaps you should accept it and just enjoy the ride...

The problem does not get to me that much and you are right it can't be a big problem or BMW would have found something wrong with car, believe me they have serviced it enought times, I just wish I could get to the bottom of it. Besides the fact it is burning perfectly good oil and costing me money I don't really mind.
Now I have found out how to stop it smoking I suppose that is somthing and it should help with the oil consumption.
