SO3's or Pzero Yellow. Which is better ?
I have heard lately about Bridgeston's SO3 and how good it is but is it really better than the Pirrelli Pzero yellow. I have had the Pzero for a long time and i know it is the best out there. The Max. grip is excellent. It came standard on my Diablo..I had it on my 370 bhp SMS Audi S2. It came with 18" and Pzero's from the tunning company and they didnt disappoint me !
I remember telling my friend to get the same tire for his 99' E55 and boy what a difference..his car used to smoke off the line with his stock tires but it hardly screeched with the Pzero !!!
Another proof that the Pzero's are so good was when i changed them to S02's on my old Audi...what a bad tire and big mistake i made..the car used to slide everywhere !!!! there was no grip and no comparision between the two...
Now i know that the S03's are alot better but could it beat the Pzero yellow ? That is the question. Anyone have any thoughts ? I put forward this question cuz i need all the traction i can get for when i get my M5 back with the supercharger on !!! Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have the Pzero Rosso rapped around 19" BBS LM's on my M5 now and im disappionted in their perfomance. I read that it is better than the Pzero yellow in everything except max. grip.

European Car Select Gear
I'm also thinking of replacing my original tires with a Bridgstone Potenza S0-3.
The only thing I can contribute to your question is the article in European Car Magazine (December 2001), as they selected S0-3 as the "Best of the Aftermarket" tires. From my understanding, they went through several tire tests before deciding on the S0-3.
Check it out.

PZero Yellow?
What's the Pzero Yellow? I can't find this tire on Pirelli's web site.

Go with Pilot Sport..very soft and they like glue in the curves.

What is wrong with the Rossos you have? I thought they were good..
Hey Conference call on thursday, what do you say?? I spoke to ALX, and he says around lunch time would be best.

S03s PP are really great in rain, otherwise they are, well not so great. The PZero Yellow is great on dry and not so great in rain.
The PZero Rosso won a test in Sport Auto, they had best wet and dry performance as well as best comfort.
I went trough a set of S03s on the beast and IMO the sucked big time in every aspect but rain where they shine. I went back to Pilot Sports which IMO have way better dry performance as well and as superior comfort while still having a decent wet performance.
I wrote an extensive review of the S03s this spring, search the board and you'll find it.
Don't compare S03 with S02 PPs which have great dry performance.
Cheers,
/Johan

kenneth,
The Pzero yellow is the orginaly Pzero...Yellow comes from the yellow "pzero" wriiting on it. The P zero Rosso's are writen in red. Thats the yellow came from. I just made the word up!
Fernando,
The pilot's are Ok but i want superior GRIP. As i said, The E55 is a monster and has tons of torque (more than the M5) and it really screams when u floor it with a big wheel spin. But it hardly made a noise downshiting into first gear in a turn!!!! What a huge differnce. I was just wondering if the So'3 could beat it? I guess not. The So2 suck big time and i doubt Bridgestone made a tire which covered that deficit!!
johann,
Thanks but i only want max. grip and don't rerally care about performance in the rain. The Rosso's are supposed to be better than the Yellow but who cares? It suck when it comes to grip. When i mean suck i mean its the same as the Michellen's it used to have. Plus it only rains here (Bahrain) 2~3 months a year. So it wouldn't help me that much either. Thanks anyway for pointing that out.

Kenneth,
I my cousin have an E-55 and I drove it. I agree with you the torque is much more than our car. They came with continental, than they change for So2.I don't know if the car is very hard or is the wheel form AMG, but I felt like in a wash machine. The E-55 is very hard and makes a lot of noise the wheel, mayby because the concept of the car is different? I don't know how S03 will run I the beast, but I cannot disagree which one is better. As I said a had only drive a car with So2 (E-55).
My Pilot is getting finishing and I want to know which one I will buy. I will have the same problems as you have. Here in Brazil they are saying that Dunlop is very good (I don't think so) and the Yokohama.
Regards

Rocket,
Thursday is a weekend here and there will be alot of Saudis that come across the causeway from Saudi Arabia to drink and stuff but no worries. I can handle it !
Please take this car away from me before i die
The shape, ride, feeling, attention, and sound is truely mind blowing !!!
U go at *going to die* speeds and don't feel it. Infact u want to go faster and hear that true Italian V12 thunder behind u!!! Even the back fire can be heard clearly everytime u lift off I literely pull my right leg off the throttle to slow down !!! U love it so much and want more off it. Its better than sex man
Wait till u hear the sound of it and hear it through gears and u will know what im talking about even though it will be over the phone
Shoot me an email or private messege with the exact time and number. Will all the guys be there including that lazy Jim ? Man he sleeps till 5 !!!
Take care and we will keep in touch. Chao

tires
From my experience on a number of different BMW and Porsche types I find the SO-3's are exelent all round tires.
But if you are going for all out performance in the Dry nothing beats the Pzero's ( yellows) except slicks, but the perelli's are a handfull in the rain if you have wide rear tires ( not fun for emergency stops on the highway in the rain! )
I personally have the SO-3's on for normal driving, but have a set of PZero's which I use on the track.
