No FM radio reception

Hi all,

I've searched the archives but the problem I'm having is a little different than what I'm finding.

It's an '02 M5, Mark III nav, DSP / M Audio.

The problem I'm having is no FM reception. Not poor, but dead silence, when I scan through the fm dial, it doesn't detect any stations at all.

Ok, here's what does work....everything else. NAV works fine, AM radio works fine, CD Changer plays ok too. DSP is working properly, just no FM whatsoever.

I tried performing the reset in this thread: Very happy - fixed my DSP problem!
But it didn't work.

I tried re-seating the connectors on the radio unit in the trunk, but that also had no effect. I'm thinking it's a bad radio unit which is item number 1 on this diagram:

Has anyone else had this problem or if anyone has other suggestions, I'd really appreciate them.

Thanks, - ///Jason

Try changing the antenna before you try a new radio - having AM reception doesn't necessarily mean your antenna is still good...

Believe me, it is a lot cheaper to have to replace an antenna than it is the radio (although if you replace the radio you can replace the CD Changer too and get MP3 + text display).

i had an issue with my fm radio when i bought mine last year. i had really crappy reception [realize that yours is not at all, but work with me here]

fix ended up being that the radio was set for the wrong geographical area, instead of North America, it was set for Asia FM. might be something to look into, but i don't know where to look for that setting. if anyone else knows, please post.

good luck.

It is on the hidden radio menu - I believe you press and hold select...

Usually this is pretty obvious since the radio tunes to stations that don't exist (ie. stations that end in positive numbers in the US).
