I am sending the ECU to PowerChips this week. They sent me a label but no instructions. I am sure it's no big deal to remove, but can someone tell me where it is before I start trying to find it on the car? In the passenger footwell, under the dash, under the hood??

Those pictures that Blue Thunder shows make it easier to visualize where the unit is. The cover on the ECU has tabs on towards the edge closest to the windshield. Once you get that cover off, you'll need to pull the four harnesses off. I think if you start with the harness closest to the middle of the engine bay and work your way towards fender the harnesses come out fairly easily. IIRC there are two types of connectors on there so once you mastered one you'll just need to worry about one other type.
Thanks again for your instructions. I pulled the car in the garage and ten minutes later I headed in the house with the ECU in hand. Very easy job. Now I just hope Fedex doesn't lose my unit.

Bob: BMW uses those cool lever connectors on their motorcycles as well, so I was familiar with them. Very nice way to get a positive seat on the connections.

TurboCarrera,
My first encounter with those connectors was doing the speaker swaps. I must have drove Jason from BSW nuts with my newbie questions. I'm glad you got the ECU out. I love this board and the members that help each other out.
Powerchip provides excellent step by step instructions on how to gain access and remove the ECU. They probably just forgot.
Give them a call and they will eMail you the file ASAP.
