Concealing a DVD player...

Any idea of how to conceal a DVD player in the M5 (preferably accessible to the front passenger) to hook up to the VSM for playback through the Navigation system? There's really no small form-factor DVD players, so I'm guessing a custom job might be what the doctor ordered.

Any ideas?

I think www.navtv.com and www.bimmernav.com has some options like that and you could mount the dvd player in the glove box or to the right of the center console so that the passenger can hook up the movies, you might also consider some other options like a passenger-side sunvisor monitor or a stand-alone monitor...Pyle has a pretty decent selection http://www.pyleaudio.com/bcategory.a...d%20Navigation

It's possible the DIN size dvd player (like used in the link above) could fit in the glovebox. I've never measured the dimensions but it's close. If you have a late model 02 with the Aux input option on your head unit you could then easily put your audio through that. Video would need to go thought some sort of video adapter- such as from navtv (also allows backup camera use).

I currently use a audiovox mobile dvd player that is a bit tall for my liking but is suffice for now. As I said audio is connected to the aux input, and video is sent to the video to nav module. Looks good, sounds great.

I have the VSM and will be using the backup camera. Basically, I need to figure out how to conceal a DVD player that can be hooked up to the VSM using RCA cables. I was thinking of a little "under the seat" custom job, but the possibility of the power seat damaging the unit becomes an issue. I don't want to permanently modify any expensive trim pieces either. Maybe rip a DVD player apart, make my own casing for it, hide the circuit boards elsewhere, and do it that way.

wow. keep us posted. it's too bad no one can come up with a modified nav unit that includes a dvd player instead of a tape player... sell it on an exchange basis...

I have a PS2 in my car that functions as a DVD player as well. Also, you can purchase a wireless (RF) controller so you don't need line of sight to operate the PS2, unlike some DVD players that come with IR remotes.

Do the RF remotes work with a baby PS2? (The ones they sell for like $100 now)

freakin' genius! you probably have the slim PS2. I like this idea a lot. If you have a few spare minutes would you mind sharing how you wired everything up and where you put everything and what monitor or nav conversion you are using and what other accessories would be needed to do this?

Freakin' genuis indeed! I just ran out and bought myself a black slim PS2. If it's going to be inhabiting my glove box, I don't really need an RF controller... the passenger can control the movie while I drive. It's not for my entertainment anyway, it's to shut them up on the road trip.

Edit: Just opened the box and it's the PERFECT size. This is going to kick ***. A backup camera, and a DVD player/PS2 through the nav screen. Yeeeeuh. If the Xbox 360 was smaller and quieter and didn't generate so much heat, I'd have considered using one of those instead.
