Squeaking sound when rolling...replaced my center driveshaft support

For the last several months, I've had an annoying squeaking sound whenever my car was rolling between about 5mph and 35mph. It was not related to braking or accelerating. It was related to the car moving, so something to do with wheel rotation.

At first, it was intermittent. When I brought it into the shop, they could not hear it on the road nor when they threw it up on the lift. A few weeks later, I brought it in again, and they again weren't sure what it was. I then drove it for a few months until my next oil change gave me a reason to bring it back to the shop. By that time, the noise had gotten louder and was clearly audible almost all the time. This time, they used a stethoscope to figure out that the noise was coming from the center support for my driveshaft. So, they tore it down to confirm the problem with the center support. When they removed it, it essentially disintegrated. The metal ring, about 2.5 inches in diameter, broke into several pieces. The ball bearings in there all fell out, and the remainder look pretty corroded. Well, the good news is, they replaced the center support (< $100 in parts, plus 4 hours of labor), checked out my driveshaft, which turned out fine. Now, everything seems completely fixed. No squeaking. Car seems to roll much smoother too.

Has anything like this happened to you?

Does this sound like the squeaking/creeking noise?

My car was doing that very thing. I couldn't find a problem, but I did find my front wheel bearings were pretty much shot, so I replaced them last weekend.

If my squeak continues, I know where to look next!

Thanks!

No. At this point after driving it for another week, I'm pretty sure the shop correctly diagnosed and fixed the problem. It was the center support for the driveshaft.
