        "special" differential fluid?

Has anyone ever tried the special differential fluid from BMW? I just got my car looked at for the whining noise under light acceleration and they said I need a new differential with only 44,000 miles. The parts guy said they made a special oil for e46 m3 differential noises. Part number: 83 22 2 282 583. Just wondering if anyone has used it with any luck. It is $115!

        Thanks for any input.
