spoke with Vorsteiner today ............
They are not capable of making a clear see through Lexan type Plenum cover for our car. they are coming up with a few other parts/items for the E39 m5 sedan. The one that caught my ear is a real carbon fiber roof, like the one on the new M3 car. A CF trunk is also in the works for our car.
I was the one was orginally started the CF GTR hood craze and and the request/idea years ago and it eventually happened. The same with the see through plenum cover will take place. the question is how will make it ? Time will tell.

so will the roof replace the steel roof/ sunroof assembly? THAT would be Cool, but not if it's a cheesy overlay.

based on how it was explained to me, Its not an overlay. You actually remove the metal roof and replace it with the CF roof. It didnt occur to me that the roof has the moon roof, otherwise i would have asked about whether the Moon Roof would be deleted or its a roof system which will keep the MR aspect.

OK, are you saying they are going to cut out the steel structure roof at the pillars and weld/secure the CF in its place??
Regards,
Jerry

yea. it will be no simple or easy task, as the spot welding points have to be detached from the roof in order to remove te roof. You also have to take aprt the entire front windshield area, so the roof can be removed. It sounded as if its a complex procedure and not for the faint of heart ! call them if anyone one else wanted additional details on this upcoming mod.

I'm sure weight savings would be tremendous on that though..especially if deleting the sunroof.
What kind of weight saving would it be for the CF Trunk??

evosport in southern cal has done this on e46 m3's, using the OE CSL roof. Probably extremely pricey!, but extremely cool. Must save quite a bit of weight getting rid of the sunroof assembly, maybe a hundred lbs, and all up high, would imagine that helps the cg.

Thanks Robert. Very interesting. It would be nice to know about how much weight can be saved w/ the roof, since this is a pretty extreme mod.... as you said, not for the faint of heart. 100 lbs up high DOES sound alluring. When I think about it, I really don't use the sun roof that much (I can't remember when last I had it all the way open). Will have to think about this one!
