Figured out 2002 Service Menu
Guys
I broke the code last night on my 2002 M5. Here is how I got the service menu up. I have a car that was built in week 40. 10-1-01.
Get in car close doors, turn key to Position 1 or 2, hit the accept on the Nav system and make sure the radio is off.
pull the key out and put it in Pos 2.
turn radio on and hit the "Select" key and hold it until the display changes or flashes and becomes the menu screen.
I then turned the right hand computer knob one position right or left and
You are in: You now see the service menu appear with the radio serial number.
Use the < > keys to scroll through the functions and the 1 and the 2 keys to make selections for each setting.
You see (not in this order):
Serial Number
Software Version
GAL (mine was set to 2, I changed it to 6)
FM station info
Man
DSP
TP volume
Country
Turning the radio off saves the changes. I also found all my preset radio stations were lost and had to be reprogrammed.
From old posts, I think there may be another service menu for the Nav system, if any one figures it out - please post the instructions.
Regards,
Bill K

What is Gal, Man, TP volume??
Can we see our RPM in instrument cluster display (NOT in Navigation Monitor)?? This will look cool to impress friends . Can we also display it in Nav Monitor itself?

GAL
The GAL is german for speed sensitive volume control. A higher number is more sensitive. The other things are more for information than anything else. I have not been able to see RPMs or anything else - I think there are other service menus, just not sure how to access them.
I figured this out from reading the previos posts on how to access this menu if you have the year 2001, 2000 and before, then I just followed the same procedure and tried a few different buttons.

Do you know if changing the 'Country' option will change the odometer from Kilometers to Miles?

From what I saw, I think this is only the menu for the radio and sound system. Changing the country from US to Europe only changed frequencies I received. Didn't do any change to other stuff.... You can change some of the other options through the Nav "set" option... like from MPG to km/l... For the odemeter change, I think you might have to go to the odometer menus.. I wouldn't mess with that, but you can find the instructions at www.bmwtips.com
