Nav OS version 29.1 help requested

So not being a software genious, while at the dealer for a CPO repair of the "TIRECONTROL INACTIVE" issue for the third time I asked my SA to update my Nav OS to version 29.1. He calls me later that day to tell me that The service tech and the service manager do not recommend this as it may creste issues. He went on a long rant basically to discourage me from doing the upgrade and concluded that for $115 they would "attempt it". So I told him to forget it, A) for the price, and B) beacuse they are not helping me in any way whatsoever to get this accomplished...

I had previously asked the parts department if they sell the "upgrade CD" for the OS software and of course they don't.

So now I'm stuck and am looking for some help. Can anyone steer me in the direction of a RELIABLE known good source for the Nav OS for version 29.1? I am not smart enough to download it and then would be concerned about loading an untested CD into my car. My preference is to buy a known good and tested CD and install it in the car, or if need be to go to someone that has a known good and tested CD and have them install it.

Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks as always to everyone who contributes to this wonder resource for all us M5 owners...

You may want to read up on "euro mode" which is an option available to you on the upgrade process (it removes the legalese screen, for example).

As an aside, what can you tell us about this "tire control inactive" problem and fix?

No one here is going to sell you a tested version since that would be illegal - the software is BMW property and technically only available to the dealers. The others have provided good links to get you going - they are how the rest of us upgrade.

It isn't hard - give it a shot!

go over to x5world NAV FAQS.
You dont even need to join.

Theres plenty of info in the posts. They have each version separated out.

You can download it, burn it and upgrade it.
Generally if an upgrade fails, you will need to get an older OS version and re-run it.

Note when burning, use a slower speed to ensure a better burn.

Mine is a 2003 M5 with MK IV DVD based Nav.

- I am concerned about downloading the software and burning a CD for the upgrade as it would be untested. Basically, I am afraid of screwing it up.

- I have seen the version 29.1 upgrade CDs on Ebay. These are illegal?

- Basically, I am looking to "borrow" a CD that someone has downloaded so I can update my nav to 29.1. Anyone???

- "TIRECONTROL INACTIVE" I will detail in a new post...

If anyone can help with the V29.1 update it would be appreciated.

Technically they are only allowed to be sold to a dealer who performs the authorized upgrade.
