Rear Speakers / Subwoofer...

coming back from a road trip, i had a cd in the changer that was very low so the volume was very high up... when navigation came on it was exceptionally loud, and i quickly lowered the volume. however now it appears one of the speakers are blown. i get a vibration/crackle with every bass drop.

i was wondering if anyone here has an OEM replacement, or could point me in the direction of a decent aftermarket set that you guys may use in this case?

thanks in advance i appreciate the info/help.

Basically, M audio added two small subwoofers under the rear deck.

So if it's a sub that's blown, you could either replace the sub with a stock unit or upgrade to an aftermarket system such as the one I referred to above. I believe the M-audio also has 5.25"s in the rear deck as well. If it's one of those that's blown, I'd replace both 5.25s with something aftermarket. Maybe a stereo guru will chime in.

Have you been able to narrow down if this is an interior speaker or possibly one of the factory subwoofers?

I'd be thoroughly surprised if the nav voice managed to blow a subwoofer - the voices simply aren't deep enough to involve the subs.

There certainly are a large variety of speaker upgrades available. I used MB Quart and love them. Others have used the Rainbows from BSW and love them. I personally think that buying speakers without hearing them (ideally in your vehicle) is asking for trouble, so you should try to audition some in various vehicles if you can.

Your system consists of tweeters in each of the 4 doors, 5 1/4" mid-bass in the front doors and rear decks, and 2 subwoofers bottom mounted in the trunk.

To identify the blown speaker you should get a cd or set of nav directions that induce the vibration / crackle and then repeat it for front and rear.

Testing the front first will help identify if it is a subwoofer as the sound will come from behind you. If it is in front of you then narrow it down to left or right. If the fronts test ok then go to the rears. Narrow it down to left or right as you have already eliminated the subs.

replacing the stock subs with anything other than a box or another set of M-Audio subs will be difficult - there simply aren't many free air subs on the market (trust me, I'll looking!).

you sir are correct... today i had an opportunity to thoroughly inspect the rear speakers/subs etc. good news/bad news (for me). good news its not a speaker, or a sub. bad news... some how the rear decklid is now extremely loose. it is vibrating against the speakers, subs and rear window, primarily near the brake light.

i imagine theres dynamat in my future, i just need to find a way to get the decklid off. is there an online chiltons manual or a place you guys recommend to purchase a tech manual?
