Is this faith or what?

I recently joined the club and learning the ropes/nav this site. My first BMW was a 1984 325e and been stuck ever since (never looked back). Started with Chevys, gone thru Toyotas, and landed in BMW land. Being an engineer may be the reason I'm a firm beliver in DIY for all the easy stuff and leave it to the pros for the hard stuff. It just amazes me how much information is available at this site and took me 13 years (and an M5) before our paths would cross.
My journey started Oct/06 when I wanted more power out of my 2000 528 automatic (Royal Red Metallic/Tan). I ended up installing a VF sc in it and upgraded the tire and wheels. Overall, mod was good but had continue annoyances. This added 115hp and was fun to drive around with. After 10 months, I wanted more and began my search....
The only requirement (from my son) was no black interior. Three weeks ago, my son and I were bachelors while the wife was out shopping one Saturday morning. As usual, I got online and came across one in San Mateo that looked interesting. On the way there after a late lunch, I called home and the wife was home already. She glady joined us. It turned out the car was a 2000 M5 in Royal Red Metallic with Caramel interior and 52k miles on the clock. The the rest is history... What an amazing car! Working on getting pictures of old and new toy loaded. 100% enjoying this site. New toy- so far all is well.

Congratulations on the new beast!

Caramel is indeed the sweetest interior imho. It's the only thing I would have ordered differently in my current car.

Enjoy!

Thanks! The latest thread on "engine problems" with the early production -late 99 & 2000-car is scaring me a bit. Mine is 10/99 so I hope the other failures are not what's to come for me. Having a blast none the less. Cheers

Welcome welcome welcome. From one newbie to another. But, unlike myself, I am sure you understand everything much more than I do. This has been a WONDERFUL board with a plethora of information for the car. I love it!!

congrat ...& welcome....

I can only imagine...how it must feel behind the wheel coming from a 528 (SC'e nevertheless)
And I agree that this board has tremendous information for our beast. I am glad I found this board. I was roaming around this board for about 6 month before I even bought my beast (call it researching ).

Regardz,

J Irwan

Don't worry about the build date.
The only "issue" I personally have with the build date is that we are forced to use 10W60 oil. Its now $17/litre in Edmonton but luckily mine doesn't drink it too badly.
Just drive it hard and maintain it properly.

My 09/99 build just turned 140,000km (87,500 miles) and still runs strong, just like the day I got it.

Enjoy!
Salty.
