Just got back from a trip to the Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas in Nevada. I went with my father to our first Poker Run at Lake Mead. If you have never done a Poker Run before, it's worth it and lots of fun! What we did at this one, was paid and entry fee with 49 other boats for the honor of doing this event. Then on Saturday, October 27th, all the boat owners put their boats into Lake Mead for the 3 leg Poker Run. At the drivers meeting before the run "RACE", everyone got a chance to spin a wheel with cards all over it. Whatever card you got, was written down as the first card in your hand. After the meeting, all 50 boats lined up side by side in the Lake Mead bay (point A) and took off for point B to get the second card. Three boats with us did about 150 mph up the lake to the second point. We were doing about 115 mph, not to full throttle yet, but were passing a lot of the slower boats before the transmission broke on one of the engines. It was a blast while it lasted though and on our slow journey back to the marina, we got to see all of the boats coming back past us in the second leg of the run. Anyway, if you finished all the legs of the race, you would have most of the cards you would need. Then, that night at the special dinner, you would pick your last card. Then the promoter of the Poker Run gets up and gives away people's choice awards and little prizes, then gives away a small purse for the winner of the best poker hand. It was lots of fun and some of these boats really ripped. To see some pictures of some of the boats at the Poker Run and my dad's sweet boat, click here:
