Driving with a bad CPS?

I'm pretty sure my CPS is gone......SES light, semi-rough idle, some power loss, etc.. I made an appointment with BMW 2 weeks ago for today but they called and said they can't take me for another week.

Can I damage the car by driving it with a bad CPS? I'm babying it everywhere I go and it never goes into limp mode. I'm soooo mad at BMW right now.

I think the answer is no. I would hope the engine would go into limp mode before some sensor failure would allow damage. I can't believe you can't get into your dealer before then though...that is crazy. If you were here in Raleigh, Leith BMW could get you in within a day or two at the most unless you were trying to get a loaner car in which case it may be a week.

I am trying to get a loaner since right now in my life I NEED a car. I'm under 25 and it would cost me a ton to rent one too. I'm just furious that they'd move it back like that. Bump me and everyone after me and let me get my car fixed!!

Isn't there somewhere else near you that does German cars? It's really a no-brainer job - one screw, one plug.

You should be able to wait on the car. It will take an experienced tech much less than an hour to pop in a new CPS. My dealer will accomodate a certain amount of "wait" customers, and they have desks and wireless high speed Internet, coffee, drinks, etc.. The alternative is to find a good local indy shop I guess.

But not too bad...

Terrible that you have to wait but I can't feel toooo bad for someone under 25 driving an M5...I believe I was driving a Chevy Cavalier about then (don't ask).

Yeah, guess I shouldn't feel so bad either!

I'm not 100% sure it's a CPS so I can't just go and wait. I'll just be patient and avoid driving till Tuesday. Thanks guys!
