Help!! OBD code P1634, Throttle Valve Adaptation; Spring Test Failed

I've been getting this code off and on for the past couple of days. Also sometimes when I start, the car goes into "ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE" and won't rev until I turn it off and restart. Anyone have any ideas what may need to be replaced? I have search the forum and couldn't find any issues related to this particular code. P1634 Thanks in advance

Robert

The throttle valves (one for each cylinder) are actuated by electric servos. From the code description, sounds like one or more valves or their sensors have failed. This will likely require a visit to a professional tech.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."

What fixed the P1634 code?

Hello,
I have a 2001 M5 that is giving me the same codes and error message. Could you tell me what the dealer had to do to fix the problem??
Thank you!

very OT: has anyone ever attempted to install carburetors on the s62 like some downdraft webers? that would look cool... but function is another issue!

Uh, I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that. There would be no increase in HP, and likely a decrease, together with poorer driveability generally, and especially when cold. I suppose it would look cool, though, especially with that big dome or cutout in the hood that would require to clear them.

Hi. The dealer replaced the throttle actuator. You can see it here. It is item 1. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=12&fg=10&hl=2 They also reset the adaption values. Good as new!

I have cleared the codes but, It will keep coming back. At the time my car had 76,323 miles on it.

This is what I have on my receipt:

Customer states there is an Engine failsafe program light on.
Throttle motor faulty.
Interogated fault memory, submitted puma case #12166816, per puma case replaced throttle motor. Also checked throttle body syncronization, throttle bodies syncronized correctly, no adjustment needed. Cleared fault memory, reset adaption values.

Parts 12-72-7-831-246 Throttle actuator

Hope this helps.
