Another SSK install

I've read several threads on SSK installs and after countless pages of reading I decided to buy the Z3 1.9 shifter. Yesterday I stopped by my dealer and bought the shifter, the white plastic bushing, and a few of the yellow washers/c-clips just in case (this came in handy). I had the UUC SSK and thought I'd try something different (shorter).

After completion I took it for a quick spin and am very satisfied with it. You can go shorter with the Z3M shifter but for me I think I made the right decision. I'm pleasantly surprised by it's feel - while it's not near as smooth as a new A4 (the A4 Avant I just rented in Europe was like cutting through butter) it doesn't really feel notchy at all. My UUC shifter also had the ERK which raised it a bit more so my new one is noticably shorter, but not too short for my tastes.

This was the first time I raised the car so I spent some time figuring out how to get raised. This resulted in a Home Depot trip to buy some wood and cutting/nailing a few boards together to get enough lift to get the jack under the car. After that I had two other time drainers: 1) removing 6 little screws that held the ERK in place (no room - PITA!!!) and 2) the bottom part of my new shifter was a bit too wide, ~ 0.065", to fit into the DSSR linkage so I had to file a bit of it off to make it fit. So this resulted in a total time of ~ 3.5 hrs but I have to admit I took my time.

Yes, i do think that the uuc evo3 ssk is a little high for my taste also. i didn't expect that when i bought it. do u know if changing the shift knob to a shorter one will help that a bit ? very nice comparison of the z3 and uuc shifter!
