DSC question
I heard that if you hold the DSC button in for more than a couple seconds it's supposed to completely turn off the DSC...How do you know that you've done this procedure sucessfully or not. I tried it recently and I saw the DSC light come on as I was holding the DSC button down and then it went off completely. I couldn't even get the DSC light to come back on..even when I turned off the ignition and back on. I thought that maybe I broke something so I took it back to the BMW dealership. While waiting for the service advisor..I thought I'd go try it once more. What do you know...the DSC light came on now! I guess you have to wait a couple of minutes for it to sort of reset itself. Any ideas?

Jason,
Nobody has yet been able to explain why the DSC light goes out and stays out until the ignition is turned off and back on again. Rest assured, it makes not difference to DSC ... DSC is on unless the DSC light is illuminated.

Someone told us here awhile back that BMW programmed that option into the DSC system in the event that someone does not want the driver to deactivate DSC -- i.e. if you hold the button in, DSC is permanently enabled until you shut the car off.

I thought that it was just so you don't have the annoying light on the display... I think some people said that it was very distracting, and BMW engineered it that way, so you can turn off the light by pressing the DSC for a set amount of time.... DSC remains off even if the light it out until you restart the car...

thanks for the replies you guys! But the weird thing is...even after I turned off the car and restarted..the DSC light still wouldnt come on! It was only after I'd left the car off for a couple of minutes then it would finally come on! Go figure...

Tfung, has it right on what we were told in another thread a while back. Now I'm wondering which is true?
Suffice it to say that you should not disable DSC except in track and other situations like drag racing or doing hand brake 180's where car control is within your capablilities.
DSC can be considered a safety device for daily driving just like your airbags, and seat belts with tensioners.
Happy trails!!!

Sounds like a valet-parking thing. So they don't go burning doughnuts in the parking lot when you give them the keys. Not that they would do that sort of thing, of course.
Anyone timed exactly how long it stays off for?

I've noticed that the ring-taxi drivers at Nürburgring has the light on all day long, so I suppose that it has to be another explanation.
