An '00 M5 with 20K mi for $42K? Are they serious?

Stevens Creek BMW in San Jose has a 2000 M5 with 20K miles advertised for an almost unbelieveable $43K! Stated as LeMans Blue, with no interior color given. None of their ads (Craigslist or Autotrader) have any pics, though.

Even if the mileage is that low, are they out of their minds or is this car worth looking at?

Yes to both....although if you offer them $20k less thay'll ask if you're out of *your* mind...and that answer would be: "no". Can't imagine they'd get more than...$27k? Unless it's an S2 or something...but it *still* wouldn't go that high. If *I* were interested, I'd call up, ask for a salesman and say: "Um...is there a typo in your ad? Is that 4 supposed to be a 2?"

well, it's a dealership, it's got low milage, and if it's pristine (and maybe sitting in their showroom), someone who doesn't want an e60 and likes the older body style may pay somewhere in the 30's. My dealership does this all of the time, and currently have a black z8 on their showroom with milage in the teens for near what it's new sticker price was. Will they get it, probably not, do they mind sitting on it until they get close, no.

I know i wouldn't part with mine for under 40k, and even then, what would i buy for that kind of money to replace it...

From my dealership experiences when I was in the military while in Cali (including visiting Stevens Creek), I can tell you that they know full well how fast E39 M5's go. People are flush with money in the South Bay (I got that right, right?) and Stevens Creek knows that. Their prices on used, no-warranty E46 cars were ridiculous at the time as were most prices on used BMW's in the SJ/SF/SAC area. I waited until I got back to Texas.

I saw A LOT of E34 M5s (very odd) in Cali, but E39s? Not so much.
