Is it a full cat-back or exhaust only? I like the aspect of it being BMW authorized and under warranty. But does it add to the experience of the M5 in sound and performance? My car is to ship this week (status 155 today!!!...), and might have an exhaust waiting at the dealer to be put on upon arrival. Those who have the Dinan, are you satisfied?
The Dinan exhaust simply replaces both mufflers and takes some weight off the rear end. Again, to quote the Dinan web site:
"Dinan's M5 exhaust weighs only 37.6 lbs. vs. the stock system at nearly 66 lbs."
It will definitely add a nice rumble to the car and as I like to say, give your M5 some soul. It's not too invasive as some (Tri Flo), and with the windows up you can easily hear the stereo. Not that I normally have tunes going as the engine is enough for me!
I'd recommend the cold air induction system, the Dinan mufflers, and Stage III suspension setup. You car will literally dance with those upgrades.
In the back of BMW Car it references Birds as being the UK Agent but cannot see any reference to Dinan at the Birds site. Suggest you give them a ring (01895 810850). They also do Hartge stuff for BMWs. Website is www.birds.uk.com

I have the Dinan system. Beautful craftsmanship, and a SWEET sound. From idle to about 2500 RPM it has a throaty, low rumble. From 2500 to 4500 RPM not very different than stock. From 4500 to red-line it has a high pitch growl similar to a Ferrari ( It is loud, but not annoying, and you don't hear much in the cabin with the windows up). Minimal resonance from 800 to 1100 on third gear ( More so when the exhausts are hot). The exhausts get clamped on. Takes about 45 minutes. To the untrained eye, they look no different than stock tips. They have "DINAN" inscribed on the top of each of the four tips. The tips are staggered, like stock. The only downfall is the thickness of the metal of the tips which is much thinner than the stocks. So if you don't polish them regularly, it is conceivable that they may become "charred" over time and discolor, although I have not experienced this. In fact, every time I polish the tips ( about once a week) they shine up just like new.
Just spoke to Birds UK and they are able to get the Dinan system within 10 days at a cost of approx £1600 +VAT. They also recommended the Hartge system.

I see on the Dinan website the exhaust is 1998 USD compared with paying Birds 2,688 USD (1600 x 17.5% x 1.43). Not sure the costs of shipping if you ordered it direct but I guess at least if you buy it from Birds they will sort out any problems if damaged in shipping and can also fit it for you. How does this price compare with the kelleners and ACS exhausts? The Hartge is 1491 pounds (2132 USD)

Just spoke to Kelleners and they quoted me 2790DM (approx £892 inc VAT but + shipping) for their silencers. There is an option to purchase Sport Catalyzers for about the same price again, but they pointed out installation of the latter was far from straightforward.
I've just ordered the Kelleners CD. At this stage they are looking favourite

I have looked into Kelleners, ACS etc. At the moment I am contemplating getting Cheesmans who make the exhausts for the Mclaren F1 to make up a stainless exhaust.
I have their exhaust on my wife's XKR and my EVO6. The problem with the Dinan or Kelleners exhaust is a) paying for import and b)not being able to alter it if you don't like it.
The price would be less, and the quality probably higher. Would anyone else in the UK be interested in this?
Anyone looking into replacing the stock exhaust on the M5 owes it to themselves to 'audition' the Tubi. You will not find a better looking; better made and better sounding exhaust for the Beast imho.
I have had an owner of an M5 with the Dinan exhaust go crazy with lust when he saw/heard the Tubi on my car, (especially the sound of the Beast revving to 7K under full load on the track, very sweet!!).
