993...You Asked For It!!!!

Along the highway JUST now. A guy in a black or navy 993 coupe rushes up on me. We're going like 120 km/h.

Long story short, I can tell he wants to race. For example, he is mimicking my lane changes. Moreover, when I signal the next exit but change my mind, so does he.

Fine! Straightaway ahead, there's nobody in front of us. I slide into left, gear down OBVIOUSLY to 3rd gear and just punch it. No theatrics.

Rev limiter in 3rd because I'm too busy watching this guy fade. I was trying to gauge the difference in my mirror carefully because he started out quite a bit back. I have always been curious as to how a straight sprint with a 993 would go.

4th gear. 190 km/h. He had already given up and was, like, 100m back.

I was quite surprised! It was no cake walk, but it was...DECISIVELY steady.

Feeling it was my turn to be cheeky, I slowed WAY down but he wouldn't dare pull near.

Alps

P.S. If the guy was honestly giving it 10/10th's, I LOVE my car more than ever and will never look at 993's the same.

Could anyone with 993 ownership experience pipe up on this? I need to know...

I have a 993 and an M5 and the latter has far more grunt. They're both great cars....the 993 is awesome and fast on narrow, curvy roads and feels more like a race car. The M5 is bigger, a bit cushier and despite superb engineering still feels like a bigger car. but, it sure seems faster, especially on a straightaway.

good kill! Nice way to show that 993 who the king of the road is!

I'm curious though, where were you able to run down a highway at 190 km/h with little or no traffic?

Nice Kill Alpy! 993's must be a piece of cake for the M5! Was it on the upper level highway on the North Shore?

Polvoronn: It doesn't take too much space for the M5 to get to 190 km/h! Believe me...

120-190, eastbound on Upper Levels in West Van, starting a few seconds east of the Cypress ski hill overpass (we really hit it after the road straightened, after the right-left s-curve...you know where I mean?), and glancing at the speedo just past the 22nd street offramp. PLENTY of room PV.

Cheers!

That's a great stretch of road huh, Alps. Kinda scary to think a car like ours can just about out run anything on the road... you know, I bet 993 looks good stuffed and hanging on a wall in the rec room

I took the girl up there on Sunday and it was -1, snowing and about 5cm of snow on the ground at the cross-country intersection...plows were out...traction control working overtime...
