What does the dealership do when..

What does the dealer do when the car is taken off the truck at the dealership? I know that it is cleaned and polished, but does he need to have it for a whole day or two?

I would be asking me dealer this question right now, but he has left the office and I think he is out tomorrow. I just don't want anyone to mess around with her. Any info would be great!!!

Thanks.

Harry

I asked him not to polish mine. I think I would rather do it.

Our dealership: Car is removed from the shipping vehicle, checked in. A technician does the initial PDI (pre-delivery inspection), and if the car has been ordered, does the PDI 1 and 2. Every system on the car is supposed to be checked as per a check sheet BMW prints out. The car, after being inspected, has different options added to it as per customer request. Example (cd changers, phones, garage door openers, alarms, etc..) Also the car/key memory is programmed, fault memory is read, and the car sometimes is test driven (99% of the time not). Also in this state, state inspections are required, so the tech state inspects the car. The tech then hands the keys to the porters who fill your car w/fuel, and then proceed to wash, polish, buff, clean every single visible part of your vehicle.

See, thats the problem. The people who wash and polish these cars at most dealerships shouldn't even be allowed to operate a hose, let alone be buffing (ie, putting swirls into the paint) the finish of these cars.

Sorry, I am bitter because our Lemans m5 was covered in swirls at delivery. I don't remember specifying that "option" when we ordered. Oh well.

That is why I asked my dealer not to touch the exterior of the car when it arrives. He asked me why and I told him that I was not sure if he had the right people to do the job. Also, the color of my car is jet black so every little stroke of the hand counts. Those of you with jet black cars know what I am talking about.

Well, he got a little offended when I told him not to touch the exterior. He insisted that his staff is more than qualified and that I should not worry at all. Still, I insisted that the exterior remained untouched.
