Recommendations for PPI (Chicago area)?

Guys,

I just put down some money as a downpayment for a car in Chicago. Can anyone local please recommend a good local shop for a Pre Purchase Inspection?

Is Knauz any good?

Either here or via private message

Thanks!

Carl

where is the car? i can go and have a good visual of the car if not too far...
I have my shop in Hammond, IN in which me a couple volunteer members can put the car in the air and give it a vigorous inspection.

Mt. Prospect, IL - is that close to you?

I looked at an M5 at Knuaz last December via the internet. They refused to send me photos of all 4 rims. They would only send 2 and kept saying all 4 were perfect. I found a local person who knew somebody at Knauz and he discovered that all 4 had curb rash. I would never do business with them.

I've had my beefs with Knauz over the years and no longer go there for service, but in my experience they are pretty good at PPIs. I could probably recommend them. I would stay mainline dealer, as they have seen lots of e39s including a fair number of M5's and know what to look for.

Carl,

Another possible dealer is Patrick BMW. They are located in Schaumburg which is closer to Mount Prospect than Knauz. A service agent I have started to work with is Chris Simon.

I did look at the pictures of what I think is your car on Autotrader and one thing I noticed is the temperature reading on the dash on picture #7. I can't remember if it is high readings or low readings when the sensor is not working correctly, but you might make a note of this one as I don't remember too many 99 degree days lately.

From my far away eyeball, looks like you might have landed a good one with the low miles and all. Hope the PPI comes out ok.

Well- that's why I need to make sure the PPI goes well! And yes - I saw the 99 degree measurement as well. I thought the temp would read -40 or something when the sensor goes?

Is Patrick a good shop? You would recommend Chris?

Carl,

I haven't taken my car in for service just yet, will be a few more days, but I did talk to Chris on multiple occassions and he is pretty straight forward about things. I met him through the Windy City BMW chapter and also board member (tannad) has recommended him highly. I have also met one of the techs (Faisal) who work on the floor and he was very sharp about the M5 and the questions I had.

I would recommend them.
