Bad Paint?

While detailing my Beast, I noticed many small black dots on my rear bumper concentrated in one small section. First I thought they were stains from roads but as I worked into getting them remove, I noticed they are under the clear coat.

I would think that my rear bumper shouldn't have pass the QA.

Does anyone having similar problem with paint job?

Thanks,

RareM5

I had a problem with my hood and top of front fenders. Looked like really small water spots that wouldn't come off. I had the car clayed and meguiars #3 machine glaze followed by #7 and then #16wax. This did elliminate 90% of the problem but some still remain. No one was really sure what it was. At the BMW dealership they thought it was cosmoline or "industrial fallout"

The paint on my 01' sucks, I am amazed at the lack of QC on my 01'. I had to cut and polish the entire car to remove the orange peel, but the silver paint is splotchy from the factory. My VW, Honda, Ford, and Lexus has a better paint finish than my M5.

i believe all those black dots on tha back bumper has something to do with the exhaust belching out smoke everytime we accelerate hard. That ans also. it probably has to do with how the air currents go over the car, probably causing a convection type current (Turbulence) on the back side of the car... all of that crap tha flies around gets stuck on the back.. Just my opinion on that.

Damn.. Not just me having this problem

Thanks for your feedbacks. I was trying to figure out if this is isolated incident or anyone on this board is experiencing paint problem.

Would this be cover under warranty? I'm wondering if anyone talk to dealership about this paint problem. Calling them tomorrow.

I have some dots under the paint (clearcoat) and few are over the clear coat. Like a pimple - I can feel those dots. Feel/Look like bumper wasn't sanded down properly before painted. I'll take some pictures tomorrow to post.

Thanks,

Rare M5

RAREM5, I have a Titanium '01 with splotchy paint on the hood and front fenders. It looks cloudy under certain light. BMW will repaint the car (damaged section) under warranty, but I'm not going to take them up on their offer. Per the bodyshop owner: "the car is much more valuable with the factory paint, blemishes and all".

I think what he means is a savvy buyer will be able to detect a reipaint; repaints are NEVER as durable as the factory job.

Many people don't realize their car could have been repainted at any point before delivery. Any damage or quality control failure is repainted.

For instance if your car was scratched or dented during shipping, they will repaint, sell as new. And they aren't required to tell you.

I would take the repaint.

Trip to Dealership

I'm planning on taking my car in to the dealership. If they would repaint the whole rear bumper then I would let them. However, if they are "spot" paint the bumper then I would say no.

I will keep you all posted.
