Passport 8500 or Beltronics 980?

Hey, I used to own a Bel980 before it got stolen so now I'm going to be purchasing another radar detector. I've read some test reviews and they seem to rate the Bel980 and the Passport 8500 almost exactly the same, but the Bel980 is almost a hundred dollars cheaper but the Passport is newer and probably has some extra bells and whistles, but IMO the Passport is long and looks kind of cheap/dumb in the windshield of my Jeep Grand Cherokee (which is where I would put it). So what do you think - which should I get or is there a better one out there or are there new ones coming out? Thanks! BTW, I'm not interested in a V1 b/c I've read lots of reviews and it seems like the V1, although a great detector, is getting kind of old and at 400 bucks it is too expensive for me. Thanks for your help everyone!
