Exterior Colors

I realize that this is a rather old topic, nonetheless, I am curious as to what colors look the best on the M5. I recently submitted my order for a 2001 to arrive early January 2001. I have owned numerous silver cars and have always wanted something a little different. I decided to go with the Imola Red and Black exclusive interior. Do these colors do this car justice? Please advise..........

We have ours in Avus Blue (it's a european version, so the color might be called differently in america), basically it's bright blue and black leather nappa heritage sports seats.
My father is a fond of silver cars too, but this time he wanted something different and went for the blue and it looks really great, to me at least.
about imola red, i personally do not think that big cars in red look good, but again its the matter of personal taste

I definitely feel that red is a BAD colour for the M5. I like Carbonblack as well as the new LeMans Blue. Avus Blue is too much. I hear the car looks wild in Yellow (but not very discreet). You could always have a special order colour at additional cost (BMW Individual program).

this is all personal taste so please no one take offense- this is not meant as a flame, just one persons opinion.

I dont think red looks good on any BMW with the exception of the Z1.

I used to think black was the best for the M5 but a friend told me he thought it hides the lines of the car and I agree.

He thought any light colors look good. I agree with that also. I think titanium silver looks great but also the silverstone is interesting. The lemans blue is wild and if that matches your personality go for it. the colors I would absolutely not take no matter how desperate I was are:
green,
white
and of course red.

i hate to say it, but i agree with ME on the red and green. But to each his own, im sure many dont like my lemans.

IVE SEENALL THE COLORS EXEPT FPR GREEN I LOVE THE M5 SO MUCH THAT ALL COLORS SEEM TO GET YOU BUT I CANT SAY GREEN WOULD AS FOR TINTS I THINK ALL M5S SHOULD BE LEFT THE WAY THE ARE

To me, red, black and white are perennial M-Colors. Not to say they're the nicest...

Just kicking in with my two cents, not meaning to offend anyone:

I agree with those who say Imola looks bad on this car. Seen it in person - UGH.

Stealth colors (in other words, DON'T look like a race car) are Alpine White, Oxford Green, and Anthracite. I don't favor any of them.

Good traditional colors are TiSilver and Jet Black. They're beautiful, but VERY common on all BMWs.

Royal red has not been chosen by many people and I've not seen it in person, but it might be OK if you're looking for something rare. People who saw it at the New England meet said they liked it.

Avus Blue is discontinued, in favor of LeMans Blue.

Siverstone looks baby blue/powder blue in most lighting conditions, so be forewarned! It's tied with Imola as my least favorite color that I've seen in-person.

Carbon Black and LeMans Blue are only available on the M5 and are both good colors, but LeMans is a bit more of a statement. Also, Carbon seems to be pretty common, so if rarity is a factor in your decision....

The BMW Individual program is not available in the USA if that's where you are located, but others in USA have had good luck getting any color they want with special orders. Most sales reps don't know how to do it, but if you have them contact the BMWUSA M5 specialist they should work out a deal on a special color order by telling you how much it will delay production of your car and how much extra you'll have to pay.

I special ordered Biarritz Blue for my car. Its a normal five or seven series color. But I liked it more than Avus/Lemans Blue. Post below stating that most sales people are in the dark about doing this is probably true. You have to show them the way. Anyhow the cost was about $2400 additional and it adds 6-8 weeks to your lead time. I wanted to get it with Luxury interior of Light Grey. This was a special too as Luxury for 2001 is black or caramel. Period. Well, BMW was willing to give me the interior that I wanted, but the additional cost was $6600. I passed. You've got to draw the line somewhere.

Oh, the color thing. I have a 2000 Titanium M5 that has 10k on the ticker. This is now for sale, as my new 2001 M5 is at Bremerhaven waiting for a skip across the pond. When I was at Spartanburg last year, and all the M5 colors were there to view in the flesh, there was one color that my wife and I kept looking at. There was one color that yelled, "you should have picked me." There was one color that looked discreet (which is what I prefer) but menacing. The shadow chrome wheels match beautifully. That color M5 will be in my garage within 30 days.

My choice for round two:

Anthracite/All-Black Heritage/Burl

To each his own. Plus, my Z8 is coming in Titanium.
