Still need info about UK tracking device

Sorry guys but I'm getting desparate. I still can't find a tracking system that is centrally monitored and has Europewide (ie. gps or gsm based) coverage... and my car is delivered on Oct 31st!!!

Any ideas would be welcome - should I just fit a UK system and hope the car isn't stolen in Europe (eg tracker) or a Europe system that isn't monitored and isn't linked to the police (eg DanTrack); both are no good to me i.m.o. ?!

I remember reading about a GPS based tracking system. Can't remeber details right now. I'll wade through my library of motor mags over the weekend and see what I can find.

My car has a Tracker "Horizon" unit.
This has the usual radio-based system plus a GPS system.
The fact that it has GPS capability means that in theory it can be tracked anywhere, Tracker devoloped this unit so they could track cars taken out of the country.
Don't know if it covers you if you're already in Europe and the car is then stolen, however.

When I had my M3 stolen (4 months ago whilst on the M5 drivers day, how is that for luck!!!), they found it within 3 hours.

I asked tracker about if they get the car out of the country and they "reckon" that they can still track in mainland Europe. Never tried it but might be worth a call to them.

Thanks for all the help so far guys.

The Tracker website FAQ's say that they no can do in Europe but they would catch the thief before he reaches the Channel - great. The only problem is what if I've already driven over myself. I'll call them Monday and see what they say - this is a tough one.

Ashok,

Found this site that provides a capability to monitor location of your car. Seems to be a bit Heath-Robinson as you have to customise lots of stuff. May be of interest though as it has both GPS & GSM capabilities

UK/Europe Tracker

Ashok

You should get a system installed by Global-i ViCom. I have used them in my F355 for 2 years and now have their system in my M5 too. It is europe-wide. They are based in Hampshire but have agents across the country. Speak to Tim Bishop on 01256 406690 and if you go with them get a guy called "Boo" to instal it 'cos he's just installed in my M5 and knows the car. Tim is a very enthusiastic bloke who knows his stuff. When I took my F355 to France this year, he downloaded to my email the data of precisely where I'd been and at what speed - maps with snailtrails. Their security (I'm assured) is second to none! From the security point of view, if someone tries to nick your car anywhere in Europe, you get a call on your mobile. If you leave your car somewhere, or lend it to someone, you can get a position report by 'phone, activate ring-fencing auto shut-off and lots of other clever stuff. Your insurers will love it. Ring me if you want to speak - 07770 391151
