I-405 + Rain == Bang!
My buddy's (mostly spotless) 540i got smacked this afternoon.
Anybody have experience with cost on this type of damage? We figure the car is only valued at about 20k.
Looks like bumper, exhaust, and the panel just above the bumper (but not the trunk), as far as we can tell.
Sucks, but if it gets totalled, might be M5 time.

Doesn't look close to 20k worth of damage. Maybe 5k. IMHO

That was my estimate also (~$5K).
We were just wondering if the damage approaches 50% of the vehicle (10K?), if insurance would look at totalling it. Seems ludicrous, but I had it happen with a previous car.

Unlikely a total, but if your friend complains about neck pain to the adjuster and lets the adjuster know he will consider medical services, I bet the car gets fixed!!!

Jerry

I talked with more than a few wreckers on the subject of BMW's. Very, very, very few get to the wreckers, in terms of becoming parts cars.
They are nearly ALWAYS put back on the road.
These are very scary thoughts. Think about that.

My '95 540i in July, 2004. About $4500 to fix.
